Hi all,
My wife asked me what I'd like for my 50th birthday, "something different" she said. Quick as a flash and without thinking it through I replied "A radio controlled plane"; "Pick one"; she said.
I went onto the nitrotek website and eventually, drooled over the large scale B-25 Mitchell (photo uploaded) photos and vids as well as other models. She said "Happy Birthday" and bought it and all the recommended controller, lipos etc. "But you can't fly it until after your birthday. "No problem"; I thought, that will give me time to learn the ropes". I have always wanted an RC plane, but have never owned nor flew one.
Since then I have been practicing on my pc simulator "PheonixRC" with my DX5e hooked up. In the last two months, I've minced more sim planes than I'd care to mention, and that's without programming wind into the thing.
I've also started building a balsa plane from plans that I got from RCM&E magazine, which is for a different forum.
Now comes my issue, and you all have probably already guessed the gist.
It's my 50th in two days, and I don't know whether I'm excited or terrified. This will either be the best fun that I've had whilst dressed or it could be a 10 second nightmare.
I need advice like, where/when to fly it, what tricks are common for orientation in flight, and also, what have I overlooked.
I live in Peterhead and I have a car, which I won't hesitate to jump into should I get an invite for a chat with one of you over a coffee.
Anyway, I look forward to joining your numbers and I have the application form at the ready.
